Trigger finger release is a minor surgical procedure that cuts the A1 pulley to allow the flexor tendon to glide freely and resolve locking or catching of the finger.
Recommended for patients with trigger finger causing persistent locking, clicking, or pain at the base of the finger that has not responded to splinting or corticosteroid injections.
Performed under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure, typically taking 10 to 20 minutes. A small incision is made at the base of the finger to release the pulley. Most patients go home immediately after.
Risks include incomplete release, nerve or tendon injury, infection, and stiffness. Serious complications are rare.
