Total Knee Replacement

Total knee replacement removes damaged cartilage and bone from the knee joint and replaces it with metal and plastic implants to relieve pain and restore function in patients with advanced knee arthritis.

⏱️
Typical Recovery Time
Most patients walk independently within 4 to 6 weeks. Full recovery and return to low-impact activity typically takes 3 to 6 months.

Who Is This For?

Recommended for patients with severe knee osteoarthritis, inflammatory arthritis, or post-traumatic arthritis causing significant pain and functional limitation that has not responded to conservative treatment.

What to Expect

Performed under spinal or general anesthesia, typically taking 1.5 to 2 hours. The damaged joint surfaces are resurfaced with prosthetic components. Walking begins the day of or after surgery with assistance.

Risks to Know

Risks include infection, blood clots, stiffness, implant loosening, nerve injury, and the need for revision surgery over time.
