SLAP repair is an arthroscopic procedure that reattaches the torn superior labrum at its attachment to the biceps tendon, restoring stability and reducing shoulder pain in overhead athletes.
Indicated for symptomatic SLAP tears confirmed on MRI causing pain and functional limitation in overhead athletes or active patients that has not responded to physical therapy.
Performed arthroscopically under anesthesia, typically taking 1 to 1.5 hours. Suture anchors are used to reattach the labrum to the glenoid rim. A sling is worn for 4 to 6 weeks postoperatively.
Risks include stiffness, re-tear, biceps pain, infection, and nerve injury. Outcomes in overhead throwing athletes vary and your surgeon will discuss realistic expectations.
