Quadriceps tendon repair reattaches the torn quadriceps tendon to the top of the patella to restore the ability to straighten the knee.
Indicated for complete quadriceps tendon ruptures causing inability to extend the knee. Surgery is most successful when performed within the first few weeks of injury.
Performed under regional or general anesthesia, typically taking 1 to 1.5 hours. The tendon is reattached to the patella using suture anchors or bone tunnels. A brace is worn for 6 weeks postoperatively.
Risks include re-rupture, stiffness, quadriceps weakness, infection, and hardware-related complications.
