MPFL Reconstruction (Patellar Stabilization)

MPFL reconstruction rebuilds the medial patellofemoral ligament to prevent recurrent patellar dislocations and restore stability to the kneecap.

Return to sport typically takes 6 to 9 months with a structured rehabilitation program.

Who Is This For?

Indicated for patients with recurrent patellar instability or dislocation that has failed conservative management including physical therapy and bracing.

What to Expect

Performed under anesthesia, typically taking 1 to 1.5 hours. A graft is used to reconstruct the ligament between the patella and medial femur. A brace is worn postoperatively and rehabilitation begins early.

Risks to Know

Risks include graft failure, stiffness, patella fracture at the graft attachment site, infection, and recurrent instability.
