MCL / LCL Reconstruction

MCL and LCL reconstruction repairs or reconstructs the medial or lateral collateral ligaments of the knee to restore stability after complete ligament tears.

⏱️
Typical Recovery Time
Return to sport typically takes 6 to 9 months. Recovery is longer when combined with other ligament reconstructions.

Who Is This For?

Indicated for complete collateral ligament tears causing varus or valgus instability, particularly in the setting of multi-ligament knee injuries.

What to Expect

Performed under anesthesia, either through direct repair or graft reconstruction depending on tear chronicity and tissue quality. A brace is worn postoperatively and rehabilitation begins early.

Risks to Know

Risks include stiffness, nerve injury to the peroneal nerve with LCL reconstruction, graft failure, infection, and persistent instability.
