Labral repair is a surgical procedure to reattach or reconstruct the torn labrum in the shoulder. It is performed arthroscopically and addresses instability caused by Bankart or SLAP lesions.
Recommended for patients with shoulder instability, recurrent dislocations, or labral tears confirmed on MRI that have not responded to physical therapy.
Performed arthroscopically under anesthesia, typically taking 1 to 2 hours. Anchors are used to reattach the labrum to the socket. A sling is worn for 4 to 6 weeks and physical therapy begins shortly after.
Risks include stiffness, re-tear, infection, and nerve injury. Your surgeon will discuss specific risks based on tear pattern and repair technique.
