Bone marrow concentrate injections harvest regenerative cells from the patients own bone marrow and inject them into an injured joint or tendon to promote healing.
Used for osteoarthritis, tendon injuries, cartilage defects, and partial ligament tears that have not responded to standard conservative treatment.
Bone marrow is harvested from the posterior iliac crest under local anesthesia. The sample is processed in a centrifuge to concentrate the regenerative cells and the concentrate is injected into the target area under ultrasound guidance. The procedure takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.
Risks include soreness at the harvest site, infection, and variable treatment response. Results depend on the condition treated and individual patient factors.
